Maupiti option: If the flight out of Bora Bora is late afternoon/early evening, guests have the option of heading over to Maupiti. Known as “The Authentic Island” and a seldom visited island, very narrow pass entrance but worth the effort, very little development and very friendly natives that are happy to have visitors. The main island is surrounded by five “motus” which offer an excellent lagoon and underwater gardens. This is a great spot to get the scuba gear out and have a dive, the underwater gardens are a must-see, or if you’d rather just have a snorkel it is equally beautiful scenery. Distance from Bora Bora is 30 miles, approx. 3 hours.
